Mother / Son Dance

The mother-son dance is one of the most meaningful moments of the night. It’s a chance to recognize everything your mom has been through with you and share a moment together before the celebration continues.

The best song is the one that feels right for both of you.

How to Choose the Right Song

There’s no single “perfect” choice. Some mother-son dances are emotional, while others are more relaxed or even a little upbeat.

A few things to consider:

  • Choose a song your mom connects with
  • It doesn’t have to be overly emotional
  • Think about what feels natural for both of you
  • You can always shorten the song if needed

Popular Mother Son Dance Songs

These are songs that consistently work well:

  • Boyz II Men – A Song For Mama
  • Rascal Flatts – My Wish
  • Tim McGraw – Humble and Kind
  • Lee Brice – Boy
  • Phil Collins – You’ll Be In My Heart
  • Stevie Wonder – Isn’t She Lovely
  • Louis Armstrong – What A Wonderful World
  • Ben E. King – Stand By Me
  • Rod Stewart – Forever Young
  • Jason Mraz – 93 Million Miles

A Few Different Directions

If you want something a little less traditional:

  • Tom Petty – Wildflowers
  • Fleetwood Mac – Landslide
  • Israel Kamakawiwo’ole – Over The Rainbow
  • Van Morrison – Into The Mystic

A Quick Tip

There’s no right or wrong length for this moment.

I usually recommend dancing for at least 90 seconds so your photographer has time to capture the moments you’ll want to remember. After that, you can go as long or as short as you’d like.

I’ll keep an eye on you during the dance, and whenever you’re ready, you can give me a signal and I’ll fade the song out naturally. Or, if you prefer, we can let it play all the way through.

Make It Personal

This moment doesn’t have to be just a dance.

Some couples add a personal touch like a note, a small gift, or even a quick thank you before or after the song. It’s a simple way to make the moment even more meaningful.
