Booking & Availability
▶When should we book our DJ?
For weddings, booking six to twelve months in advance is common, especially during peak seasons. Other events often require less notice. If your event is coming up soon, feel free to reach out anyway, as last-minute dates are sometimes available.
▶Do you travel for events?
Yes. Joey’s DJ Service is based in Durham, North Carolina and regularly travels throughout North Carolina and Southern Virginia for weddings and events.
Pricing & Payment
▶How much does a wedding DJ cost in North Carolina?
Wedding DJ pricing can vary depending on experience, services included, and event length. Professional wedding DJs in North Carolina typically range from $1,000 to $2,000 for full reception coverage. Joey’s DJ Service offers straightforward pricing that includes everything needed for a full wedding day from ceremony through the reception.
▶What are your payment terms?
A 25% retainer is required to reserve your date once the contract is signed. The remaining balance is due seven days before the event. Payments can be made by cash, credit card, or PayPal.
▶Do people tip the DJ?
Tips are always appreciated but never expected. Whether or not to tip is completely up to the client.
Music & Planning
▶Can we request songs for the event?
Absolutely. Many clients provide a list of must-play songs, special songs for key moments, and songs they prefer to avoid. You can be as involved in the music planning as you like, or you can leave most of the music selection to me.
▶Will you play guest requests?
Yes. Guest requests can be a great way to keep the energy high and get people involved on the dance floor. I’m happy to take requests as long as they fit the style of music you want for your event. I also respect any “Do Not Play” list or genre restrictions you provide.
▶Can we provide our own music for you to play?
Yes. If there are specific songs or recordings you would like played, you can provide them in advance and I will make sure they work properly with the sound system. Providing them ahead of time also allows me to check volume levels so everything sounds great.
▶Why hire a professional DJ instead of using a playlist?
A professional DJ does much more than press play on a playlist. I read the crowd, mix songs smoothly, adjust the energy throughout the event, and make announcements when needed. A DJ also ensures the music, sound system, and timeline are handled properly so you and your guests can simply enjoy the event.
Event Setup & Logistics
▶Do you provide music for both the ceremony and reception?
Yes. I can provide sound systems and microphones for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception so everything runs smoothly from the first song to the final dance.
▶What type of equipment do you use?
I use professional DJ and sound equipment designed for live events. I bring everything needed for the performance including sound systems, microphones, and lighting when appropriate. The only requirement is access to a power outlet within about 50 feet of the setup location.
▶What happens if equipment fails?
Professional DJs always prepare backup equipment. I bring backup cables, microphones, and other essential gear to ensure the music continues without interruption.
▶Can the event be extended if the party is still going?
Yes. If the schedule allows, additional time can usually be added to keep the party going. Overtime rates are discussed when the contract is signed. If you think you may want extra time, letting me know in advance is helpful.
▶How long have you been DJing?
I’ve been DJing since 2005 and have provided music for hundreds of events including weddings, school dances, corporate events, private parties, and community celebrations.
