I had the honor of DJing Meredith and Hayden’s wedding reception at Church of the Good Shepherd in Durham, North Carolina. The celebration began with cocktail hour at 12:30, followed by their grand entrance at 1:30, and we wrapped up the afternoon at 6:00 PM. Early start. Full energy from beginning to end.
Meredith planned her wedding in less than six weeks, which meant trusting vendors to help guide the flow of the day. From the start, they simply asked for the music to be clean and fun and then let me take it from there. City Barbeque handled the catering and kept guests fueled before the dance floor opened.
After the wedding, Meredith’s mom shared this:
“DJ Joey was exactly what we needed for my daughter’s wedding. She planned it in less than 6 weeks which meant we had to trust others with some of the details. We found DJ Joey simply by Google search and he happened to be available… super fortunate! What a great find! Joey basically ran the entire reception. When it came to music, he had little direction… just keep it clean and fun. He more than delivered! Everyone from the teenagers to the grandparents were on the dance floor for 2 hours!”
That kind of trust means everything.
Meredith and Hayden also did something I loved. They typed out their love story and asked me to share parts of it during the reception. I pulled meaningful moments from their words and told their story before dinner, giving their guests a deeper look at how they met and what brought them here.
Both are students at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and many of their friends were fellow UNC students. Once dinner wrapped, the dance floor filled quickly and stayed that way.
From teenagers to grandparents, everyone was dancing for two straight hours. Afternoon weddings can absolutely bring the same kind of energy as a late-night reception. This one proved it.
