I recently had the pleasure of returning to The Willows Raleigh for a Valentine’s Dance Party that brought residents together for an evening of music and community.
The two hour event kept the dance floor active from start to finish. From the first song to the last, there was always someone up and moving.
Because it was Valentine’s Week, I opened the evening with romantic dance classics. Motown was the clear favorite, and we stayed right in that sweet spot of 60s and 70s soul for much of the night. The residents at The Willows know their music, and they are not shy about letting me know what they love.
I took a few requests along the way, including a fun and upbeat surprise with “Uptown Funk,” which went over great. That blend of nostalgia and just enough modern energy keeps the room lively without ever feeling overwhelming.
One of the things I appreciate most about The Willows is how engaged everyone is. Even when residents are not dancing, they gather around the floor, clapping, singing along, and enjoying the atmosphere. It is social. It is joyful. It feels like a true community.
I have been fortunate to work with The Willows for several years, providing music for car shows, themed events, and even their seniors’ prom. Each visit feels familiar in the best way.
There is something special about a room full of residents singing along to songs they grew up with. Events like this are a reminder that great music does not just entertain. It connects people.
If you are part of a senior living community in Raleigh or the surrounding area and are looking to bring energy and engagement to your residents, I would love to help create a night like this for you.
