There is no better way to start the school year than with energy, excitement, and music.
On August 28, 2017, I had the opportunity to DJ the first day of school at Carrington Middle School in Durham, NC. From the moment students arrived, the atmosphere felt more like a celebration than the start of a school day.
Students were welcomed on a red carpet as they walked into the building, creating a fun and memorable entrance. Music was playing, staff and volunteers were cheering, and the energy was high from the very beginning.
College students from North Carolina Central University’s Royal Court were there to welcome students back, helping set a positive tone for the year ahead.
Local media was also on site covering the event.
Anthony Wilson from WTVD ABC11 captured the excitement. You can see me in the background around the 0:40 mark in this video:
BACK TO SCHOOL: Hundreds of Thousands of students return to school.
Lauren Haviland from CBS North Carolina was also reporting live from the school. I appear briefly around the 1:00 mark here:

Events like this are a great reminder of how powerful music can be. The right music at the right time can completely change the mood and help students feel excited to start their day.
Starting at 6:00 am might be early, but seeing the smiles, energy, and enthusiasm from students and staff made it completely worth it.
This was an incredible way to kick off the school year.
